Border Crossings: Forced Migration in a Global Economy

Jacinta Gonzalez, Dennis Soriana & Saket Soni, New Orleans Worker Center for Racial Justice

In this workshop, organizers and members of the New Orleans Workers' Center for Racial Justice will address the ways in which free trade agreements cause the deterioration of working conditions worldwide, and forced migration. Highlighting their personal experiences, organizers and members will discuss how free trade agreements and other related policies create social, political and economic conditions that create tensions between immigrants and other US based low-wage communities, particularly African Americans. Through interactive activities and dialogue the workshop will focus on how to organize across communities for worker rights, racial justice, and fair trade policies.
